Three of the best beaches in Scotland

Some of the beaches in Scotland are magnificent, the rest are just plain beautiful. Here are three of our favourites.

Luskentyre, Isle of Harris

The poster child of Scottish beaches, Luskentyre is one of the largest and possibly most photographed of the wild and remote island beaches. Funnily enough the west coast of Scotland is full of these bleached white Caribbean style beaches. This particular one is an absolute beauty and not to be missed, even if locals tell you that they are 10 a penny in the Outer Hebrides.

Singing Sands, Ardtoe

A remote, quiet, and slightly hard to reach beach I used to visit as a child. It is a 2 mile walk from the nearest carpark. This beach is huge and the dunes are so big it is where British commandos used to practice their beach landings in the second world war. You can still find ammunition shells as you stroll along the shoreline. Not only is the beach stunning but the view is to die for. Across the sea are the small isles of Rum and Eigg.

Dornoch Beach, Dornoch

Ok, so it’s not unusual to find beaches in Scotland next to world famous golf courses, but this one has everything and a little bit more. Before or after playing a round at Royal Dornoch you can stretch your legs along this golden stretch of sand. However, surrounded by shell covered boulders there’s more to this beach then sand and golf. The village of Dornoch is postcard perfect and has all you need to remain entertained for a weekend; one of Scotland’s best whisky bars, a hot chocolate shop, a delightful antique and jewellery store, a castle, impressive church and tons of history.
